Serena Williams Out of Tokyo Olympics

Serena Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam champion, has declared that she will not compete for the United States in the Olympics this summer.

The four-time Olympic gold medalist will be absent from the Tokyo Games for the first time since Athens 2004.

Despite having a high enough ranking to qualify for the American squad, the 39-year-old stated that she was not on the list of players who had been chosen.

Williams told reporters ahead of Wimbledon, "Yeah, I'm actually not on the Olympic list." “Not that I'm aware of, she said. If that's the case, I shouldn't be on it."

Serena Williams and her sister Venus have won Olympic gold in doubles three times, in 2000, 2008, and 2012. At London 2012, she also won singles.

Serena's motivation for the choice is unknown at this time, but travel and bubbling restrictions in Tokyo are said to be quite severe, which could affect whether she can bring her kid to Japan.

Williams missed the 2004 Olympics owing to a left knee injury received shortly before the competition.
