Mercedes confirmed on Saturday that Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton has extended his contract with the team through 2023.
Since joining the team in 2013, Hamilton, 36, has won six of his seven Formula One titles.
For the previous seven years, they have dominated the sport as a team. Since 2014, Mercedes has won the constructors' championship every year, and Hamilton has won six of the last seven drivers' titles.
According to reports, Hamilton will receive £40 million ($55 million) every year under the new contract.
"It's hard to imagine, I've been working with this wonderful team for over nine years, and I'm thrilled we'll be extending our partnership for two more years," Hamilton said in a statement.
"We've accomplished a lot together, but there's still a lot more to do, both on and off the track."
As the only black driver on the Formula One grid, the Briton is a vocal opponent of racism, taking a knee in front of each race last season while wearing a Black Lives Matter t-shirt.
Another factor that influenced Hamilton's decision to renew was the support he received from Mercedes in making that stand.
"I'm extremely proud and grateful for Mercedes' support in my efforts to increase diversity and equality in our sport."
"They've held themselves accountable and taken significant steps toward building a more diverse and inclusive team."
Hamilton is one championship victory away from breaking Michael Schumacher's all-time record, although he has already surpassed him with a record 98 Grand Prix victories.
