Ronald Koeman To Continue At Barcelona

According to Mundo Deportivo, Joan Laporta has confirmed that Ronald Koeman will remain as Barcelona coach for the 2021/22 season, following a pact the Dutchman struck with the Blaugrana and then-president Josep Maria Bartomeu last summer. Laporta made the choice after a period of contemplation on the club's path.

“After this period of contemplation, which I, Ronald Koeman, and Rafa Yuste have undertaken on behalf of the board, I'd like to announce that we will extend Ronald Koeman's existing contract,” Laporta stated. “We're really pleased that the discussions we've had have been fruitful, and we now have a uniform criteria that we'll use to decide what to do next season and what happened in the past.”

The decision brings the club's three-week period of uncertainty to a close. Laporta, Koeman, and Yuste had lunch in Barcelona's Via Veneto two days after the club wasted their chance at La Liga by drawing 3-3 with Levante two weeks after losing 2-1 to Granada at Camp Nou. After that, Laporta went on a time of reflection; in other words, he was exploring the market for better options especially Pep Guardiola.

Despite the turnaround, Koeman is committed to leading the Blaugrana. He believes the team has the ability to continue to expand by bringing in smart acquisitions to complement Lionel Messi's unrivaled driving power. The Dutchman is presently enjoying his vacation in Barcelona, which will go until the second week of July. Barcelona has been active in the market in recent days.

Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia, and Emerson Royal have all signed contracts, while Gini Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay are close to signing.
