Sergio Ramos Bids Farewell To Real Madrid

Sergio Ramos wept as he said goodbye to Real Madrid on Thursday after 16 years at the club, claiming it was one of the most difficult moments of his life.
The defender won five La Liga crowns and four Champions Leagues during his time with Real Madrid, and he will be recognized as one of the club's finest ever players.

The 35-year-old, who struggled with health and form last season, was unable to reach an agreement on a contract extension and will be released on July 1.

In a presentation room at the club's training complex, Ramos and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez gave short speeches, with Ramos' family in the audience.

“One of the most difficult moments of my life has arrived, because you are never ready to leave Real Madrid,” Ramos remarked.

“The fans were there for me in both good and terrible times. I had hoped to say my goodbyes in the stadium."

“A fantastic moment in my life is coming to an end, but an exciting new chapter begins, and I enter it with a strong desire to demonstrate my quality for many years to come.”

Ramos stated that he wanted to "add more titles" to his resume, and that "this is not a farewell, but a see you later," because "I will return to Real Madrid sooner or later."

Perez described it as a "difficult day," recalling how he signed Ramos, then 19 years old, from Sevilla for 27 million euros in 2005.

“He came ready to take on the world,” Perez said. “You are without a doubt one of Real Madrid's legends. You've progressed as a player here and have served as our famous captain for many years.”
