Leeds United have confirmed the signing of 24-year-old Barcelona left back Junior Firpo in a deal worth around £13 million, according to reports. Firpo, 24, has signed a four-year contract with the club.
“There were a lot of clubs interested in me this summer,” he says "Firpo explained. But, after speaking with [Leeds director of football] Victor Orta and seeing the idea, I said to myself, "Wow, this is interesting; they truly want me." At that point, I responded, "OK, I'd like to go to Leeds." A packed Elland Road, according to the locals, is spectacular. This is something I'd like to see!"
Firpo has been with Barca for two years after joining from Real Betis.
Last season, he made 18 appearances for Barca in all competitions, scoring one.
Firpo was born in the Dominican Republic but has lived in Spain for the majority of his life, representing the country at the U-21 level.
Leeds United travels to Manchester United on August 14 to begin their Premier League campaign.
