Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged his former club to sign West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice instead of highly rated French youngster Eduardo Camavinga.
United reportedly made an approach to sign Rennes' highly rated 18-year-old midfielder, who is also desired by Real Madrid and PSG, according to reports last week.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is understood to be a big admirer of Rice, but West Ham are desperate to keep him and are asking a £90 million cost for the England international, who is also a target for European champions Chelsea.
Rice's performances for England at Euro 2020, Ferdinand says, have proven why he would be an excellent addition to United's midfield.
When asked about United's decision to sign Camavinga, Ferdinand told Vibe with FIVE: 'To be honest, I haven't watched enough of him.'
‘I was at his game against Paris Saint-Germain, where he was awarded man of the match... unreal.
‘Obviously, he has skill, but is he going to come in and make an immediate impact on the squad and become a star? Or will he follow in the footsteps of Amad? Who comes in, [costs] £40 million, but is currently not in the starting XI. Is that exactly what we require?
‘Or do we need someone like Declan Rice, who is flying right now and has taken it to new heights in an England shirt? We all thought he was a terrific player at West Ham, but Declan Rice's inclusion in the England team at this age is insane.
‘Then it's a question of whether Man United has the financial means to go and get him from West Ham.' What will West Ham's demands be?
‘To be honest, football abilities Camavinga and Rice are wonderful players, and you can see their potential from a mile away.
