According to reports, Saint striker Danny Ings has turned down a new contract to extend his stay at the Saint Mary.
The England international had been offered a new four-year contract, which would have made him the club's highest-paid player.
According to reports, Saints could be forced to sell their star striker or risk losing him on a free transfer when his current deal expires next summer.
The Athletic reports that Danny Ings new contract remains on the table, and Southampton are content to let Ings see out his agreement barring an approach that is too good to refuse.
In May, when asked whether Ings will sign a new deal with Saints, chief executive Martin Semmens responded, "I think he probably will."
“Like I've maintained all along, Danny has been quite honest and forthcoming with the club about his intentions. He is putting in a lot of effort for us."
“At the end of the day, as I've always said, they're not robots, and they don't have to do what we tell them."
“The players are allowed to make their own decisions, and Danny will do so, but if you ask me right now, I believe Danny will be with us next season.
“We hope he will make a long-term commitment to the club and stay with us until the end of his career. That's what I believe will happen, but in football, anything can happen.
“I often tell people to remember that they have their own desires and wishes, and that they are not robots.
“What I can tell you, and Ralph (Hasenhuttl) will tell you, is that Danny has always been extremely industrious and dedicated to this club.”
Ings has made 100 appearances for Saints since joining on loan from Liverpool in 2018 and before making the transfer permanent.
