Arsenal Sign Odegaard On A Permanent Deal

Martin Odegaard has joined Arsenal on a permanent basis from Real Madrid for a fee of £30 million ($40.8 million) plus add-ons.


The 22-year-old Norwegian midfielder has signed a five-year contract with Arsenal after spending the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan at the Emirates Stadium.


He scored two goals in 20 appearances in all competitions, including one in the North London derby triumph over Tottenham Hotspur on March 14.


After Ben White, Nuno Tavares, and Albert Sambi Lokonga, Odegaard is the Gunners' fourth summer signing.
Odegaard will depart Real Madrid after six-year stay with the Spanish giants, which was interspersed by a series of loan spells away from the Bernabeu.


Odegaard joined the Spanish giants from Stromsgodset in Norway as a 15-year-old prodigy in January 2015, spending two seasons on loan at Heerenveen before temporary stints with Vitesse Arnhem, Real Sociedad, and Arsenal.


He is the youngest player in the history of both Real Madrid and the Norwegian national team, however he only made 11 appearances for Real Madrid first team. For Norway, he has 30 caps.


Odegaard will be wear the No. 8 shirt, which his new manager Mikel Arteta wore when he was at Arsenal.
He will miss Arsenal's Premier League match against Chelsea on Sunday, due to visas issues as Mikel Arteta's side looks to rebound from their opening-day defeat to Brentford.
