Cheshire Police have stated that Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy has been charged with four charges of rape and one count of sexual assault.
All three complainants are over the age of sixteen.
"The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorized Cheshire Constabulary to charge a man in connection with accusations of sexual assault," a spokesperson for Cheshire Police said.
"Four counts of rape and one act of sexual assault have been filed against Benjamin Mendy, who is 27 years old.
"The crimes are alleged to have occurred between October 2020 and August 2021 and include three complainants over the age of 16."
"Mendy, of Withinlee Road, Prestbury, has been remanded in jail and will appear before Chester Magistrates' Court on Friday, August 27."
Manchester City have suspended the player pending investigation.
The club statement reads;
"Manchester City can confirm that following his being charged by police today, Benjamin Mendy has been suspended pending an investigation.
"The matter is subject to a legal process and the Club is therefore unable to make further comment until that process is complete."
Mendy has struggled to settle in at Manchester City after joining from AS Monaco following their Ligue 1 title in 2016/17. During the 2019/20 season, he appeared 19 times in the league after appearing in only 13 games the previous season.
