Arsenal Eye Ajax Goalkeeper Andre Onana

Arsenal are aiming to reinforce a variety of positions this summer, and according to reports, Andre Onana has been earmarked as a long-term alternative for Bernd Leno.

Due to a doping violation handed down at the end of February, the 25-year-old is currently suspended from football for a year.

Onana's suspension is being challenged at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which will hear his case on Wednesday. A judgment on whether or not the prohibition will be lowered is likely within the next week.

Onana's lawyer, Dolf Segaar, told NOS, "We will start at 7.30 on Wednesday and I assume we will be ready early in the afternoon."

"I don't think I'll get a decision that day. We do insist on a timely decision, hopefully within a week. We can act in accordance with the new sanction if we are aware of it."

"Of course, you wish for acquittal, but let's be honest: it's unlikely. I honestly don't know; you're hoping for a significant number of months less."

Regardless of the ban, Arsenal are set to continue their pursuit of the Ajax goalkeeper, with the only difference being that if CAS fails to overturn the appeal, the Gunners may be able to sign him for a reduced fee.

According to reports, Arsenal are open to offers for German shot stopper Leno, who is looking for a new challenge away from the club.
