Lionel Messi Set To Sign New 2-Year Deal At Barcelona

Lionel Messi is expected to sign a new two-year contract with Barcelona, putting an end to the year-long debate about his future.

Since attempting to force a move away from a club last summer, the six-time Ballon d'Or winner's future has been the focus of the transfer market, but a disagreement over his release clause eventually led to him staying.

However, the Argentine did not guarantee his future to the club for the 2020-21 season, with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain rumored to be interested as his contract expires at the end of this month.

According to rumors in Spain, Messi has decided to stay at Barcelona and will shortly sign a new contract that will keep him there until the summer of 2023.

Messi will thus play with compatriot Sergio Aguero at Camp Nou for the 2021-22 season, with the former Manchester City striker signing a two-year free agency agreement.

Messi, who turns 34 later this month, had another outstanding season in Catalonia last season, scoring 38 goals and providing 14 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions.
