OFFICIAL: Arsenal Sign Ben White

Arsenal have confirmed the £50 million signing of English centre back Ben White from Brighton and Hove Albion.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is looking to rebuild his squad this summer, and he swiftly recognized centre-back as a weak spot after the departure of David Luiz at the end of last season.

There were a few names mentioned, but Arsenal quickly moved in on 23-year-old White. However, Brighton were hesitant to sell the newly capped England international, and slapped a £50 million price tag on his head.

The two teams reached an agreement earlier this month after some brief negotiations, and now Arsenal has confirmed the signing on their official website, noting that White will wear the club's iconic number 4 shirt.

Speaking on his arrival, Arteta said, “Ben was a priority goal for us, and it's terrific that we've finalised his signing, Ben has spent time with two excellent clubs, Brighton and Leeds. He has benefited from two excellent coaching staffs and has demonstrated his ability as a great prospect with both Brighton and Leeds on loan."

"Ben is a smart defender who is at ease with the ball at his feets, and his style complements ours brilliantly. He's still young, so his age and profile fits with what we're trying to achieve here. We're all excited for Ben to play a key role in our long-term ambitions."

White will join an Arsenal team that has been active in the transfer market. Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga have already signed with the club, and there are hopes to bring in a few more players.
